Surface Water Modeling Guidelines

Design Manual

All projects funded by MSD must meet design criteria contained in the MSD Design Manual, not yet available for viewing on this site. Stormwater projects and developments constructed within the MSD service area must be reviewed by MSD and meet their standards. Chapter 10 of the Design Manual contains guidance on stormwater calculations. A copy may be obtained from MSD at a nominal charge. Chapters 10-12 may be downloaded.

Introductory text from Chapter 10 on Stormwater Systems are included below.

This chapter establishes the minimum standards for the planning and design of drainage systems and stormwater management facilities within Jefferson County. The guidelines presented must be used in connection with the Watershed Plans contained in the SWDMP, the EPSC requirements of Chapter 12, and the Jefferson County Floodplain Ordinance.

The criteria in this section shall apply to all drainage facility design in both the local and through drainage systems except where facilities have significant and immediate impact upon State or Federal property or highways. In those cases, the most restrictive of State, Federal or MSD standards shall govern.

Modeling Standards for Floodplain Analysis

Local standards to support modeling of the Local Regulatory Flood Plain and Local Regulatory Conveyance Zone are included in Chapter 10 of the Design Manual.

This page has Chapters 10-12 of the Design Manual available for download.

In addition, checklists are available that Design Engineers may use to check the completeness of their prepared submittals for detention basin hydrologic design, hydrograph analysis, and stream hydraulics.
